Islands of Hope Update – 27/04/2019

Quite a short update this week. I’m back at work but have also been ill, pretty sure I’ve had a chest infection for two weeks. I’m not good at resting up though so it won’t go! Anyhow, back to ‘Islands of Hope.’ This week we start Chapter 38 and we are in an extraordinary board meeting at Princips. I know, it does not sound very exciting but it is a bit more plot set up in-between some of the action scenes we have had recently. Don’t worry, there will be more action in Chapter 39, you just have to get through the board meeting first. You can read Chapter 38 so far on wattpad by going here, or you can start from the beginning here.

Islands of Hope Update – 20/04/2019

Even though I have been on holiday I have managed to write a good five hundred odd words and complete Chapter 37. It is that old case of phone writing i.e. writing in google docs on my phone when I have five minutes free. Maybe not my best writing but it conveys the story. This week we find out that Johanna will not be disposed of, well you didn’t think Princips were completely heartless did you? But how will her new predicament affect her plans to get her family back together? You’ll just have to keep reading to find out. For now you can read Chapter 37 on wattpad by going here, or start from the beginning here.

Early Islands of Hope Update – 12/04/2019

I am away from tomorrow so you get the ‘Islands of Hope’ update a day early this week. We are back to Johanna this week, she’s in the third and final cage, hoping someone will buy her. Will she get the escape she wants so she can get her family back together? I did not quite manage to finish Chapter 37 but will hopefully next week as it is another short one due to so many strands of the story coming together. I really hope it is all getting exciting as I am enjoying writing it. You can get Chapter 37 on wattpad by going here, or start from the beginning here.

Islands of Hope Update – 06/04/2019

Not a massive update this week for two reasons, firstly I have been working on the poem ‘I Grew A Beard’ which you can read here, and secondly, Chapter 36 is not a big one so it only took just over three hundred words to finish it off. I really enjoyed this bit of the story though, as it allowed me to write some dialogue with Du Puteron being purposely annoying. I think I managed to channel my inner cheeky imp well. Anyway, Du Puteron has been arrested, but who did he send the message to? You’ll have to wait till next week to find out, actually it won’t be for a few chapters so will be longer than a week! For now, you can read the completed Chapter 36 here, or start from the beginning here.

New Vlog – I Grew A Beard

It has been some time since I have done a vlog, but here’s a new one for you. I thought about reading some of my poetry before, but have been experimenting with different ways of recording since my compact camera broke. Most recently I borrowed a digital video camera but, as you can see from the vlog, the sound levels are not great. Can’t I just get a cheap camera with good quality video and decent sound levels? Apparently not! Anyway, turn up your volume to max (you’re going to need that volume!) and enjoy the poem. Oh, and I hope you enjoy the intro thing I created too.

If you want to read any more of my poetry you can on wattpad in my collection ‘Bad Poetry You probably never want to read.’

New Poem: I Grew A Beard

Well this poem came out of nowhere! Basically I got a bit too lazy to shave then decided I would grow a beard for a bit until I could be bothered to shave properly again. After a week’s growth, my wife said that it really suited me. Then other people, after initially asking me when I was going to shave, started to say they like it. So there we go, I now have a beard. Only problem is that I have no beard trimmer so it is all starting to look a bit crazy. You can read the poem the beard inspired below, and even see my beard to decided whether it looks good or not. It is hopefully written like a journey, from unsure stubble, to proud beard owner onto unkempt fraud. If you want a few more clicks you can also read the poem in my poetry collection on wattpad entitled ‘Bad Poetry You probably never want to read.’ There is other poorly written poetry there too!

I Grew A Beard

F83E31BE-6364-4A6B-BA78-262C716A7823

I grew a beard

When the stubble appeared

I looked like a zero

More hobo than hero

I grew a beard

A path I almost veered

When people started asking

How long this fluff was lasting

I grew a beard

I thought you’d sneered

At my lovely bristles

A face full of thistles

I grew a beard

But it’s not what I feared

I thought it would itch

Until full-bodied and rich

I grew a beard

I thought it looked weird

But it looks quite good

Much better than it should

I grew a beard

I didn’t get jeered

Just got asked a question

About my hairy direction

I grew a beard

Glad I persevered

It doesn’t look too bad

My view’s now ironclad

I grew a beard

Now it’s quite revered

It’s talk of the town

A metaphorical crown

I grew a beard

And now I’m cheered

A sophisticated man

Part of an elegant clan

I grew a beard

It’s got dog-eared

I don’t have a trimmer

How can I get it thinner?

I grew a beard

With food it’s smeared

Why won’t it behave?

I think I’ll just need to shave
