Islands of Hope Update – 09/06/2018

Between the school reports I am writing and the vlogs for World Cup Dreams, I have actually managed to write. Posting a shorter update last week gave me more time to write something longer this time around. Now we start Chapter 21 and are back with Johanna and the continuation of her mission. She has had to leave her husband behind, can she complete the mission and get back to save him as well as Kira? Find out in next weeks exciting episode of….oh, sorry, got carried away with 1960s Batman there! Anyhow, you can read Johanna’s continuing mission on wattpad. Chapter 21 is here, or you can start from the beginning here.

p.s. If you haven’t watched the vlogs, the World Cup is nearly here, just the time to promote World Cup Dreams again. There are free and paid for versions you know. Oh look, there are the links below, how convenient…

Vlog – More World Cup Dreams

I said I would do more vlogs about World Cup Dreams as we head towards the World Cup in Russia. It is now less than two weeks away and we are deep into friendlies and final team announcements in preparation for the event. So to promote my book and help you prepare for the World Cup, here is my second vlog about World Cup Dreams. This time I am reading the flash fiction ‘Too many clichés?’ Remember that World Cup Dreams was a challenge I set myself during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. I decided to write a flash fiction or poem for every day of the World Cup. You can watch my reading below, under the video are links to the free and paid for versions of the book…

Vlog – World Cup Dreams

It is less than a month to the World Cup, to say I am excited is an understatement. However I am also reminded of the challenge I set myself four years ago, to write a flash fiction or poem every day for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and the subsequent book, World Cup Dreams, which I produced. I have been thinking for a while of recording some vlog posts as a way of sharing some of my writing. Then I realised, what a great opportunity, I can promote my book by reading one of my favourite entries and it is topical because Russia 2018 is almost upon us. So here is it, my first vlog. The links you need to purchase the Extra Time Edition or download the free edition are below the video. Hope you enjoy it.

There are some big guns missing, mainly Italy, USA and the Netherlands, but brilliantly, for me at least, England have made it. As we wait for the World Cup it seems now is a good time to do a promotion, I have not done one for some time. To keep you going while you wait for the World Cup you could read World Cup Dreams: Extra Time Edition and for this weekend it will be absolutely FREE on Kindle. I would like to do a promotion on the print copy but, unfortunately, that is out of my control (paper costs money you see!). So, you can download World Cup Dreams: Extra Time Edition from Amazon in the UK here or from Amazon in the US here. It should also be free in all the other countries Amazon operates. The only thing I would really like back is a review, be it good or bad. So here’s to a summer of excellent football and, hopefully, some excellent reading before that!

World Cup Dreams competition – no entries

Now the competition to win a print copy of World Cup Dreams: Extra time edition has closed I am sad to say that, whilst I had numerous likes and gained a few followers, I did not get any entries to the competition. I think this is down to one of three reasons, nobody wants the book, my email has blocked the responses or, most likely I think, people could not think of a poem or did not have enough time to write one. To test this theory, I am reopening the competition but with one change, you do not need to submit a poem. That said, if you do submit a poem you will be more likely to win. Same rules as last time, fill in the form below and I will email for an address if you win. If I do get poems I will display them on this blog and link to blogs/Twitter/Facebook (if you want me to that is – tell me if you do not). I will even sign the copies if you want (although that might actually devalue the book!). Good luck!

World Cup Dreams – two copies to give away

P1170781

I’ve got two copies of World Cup Dreams to give away, just write me a football poem.

Euro 2016 starts in less than a week so to celebrate I thought I would do a different type of promotion to those I have usually done. I have made a book free for two days, which is quite easy when they are on Kindle. However, the Extra Time Edition of World Cup Dreams is both on Kindle and in print. So this time I am going to give away two print copies of World Cup Dreams: Extra Time Edition for FREE. As I have had to purchase the books before sending them on I am going to make you work a little for them. What you need to do is write a poem about football, it could celebrate the Euros coming up or the World Cup. It might be about your favourite club team or a great manager or player. It might even be about grassroots football. The only rules are that it must be original, it must be about football (sometimes called soccer in some countries) and it can be a maximum of 250 words long. To enter you need to fill in the form below. The competition will finish on Friday 3rd June at midnight UK time. I will then pick my two favourite entries (very subjective I know!) and contact them for an address to send the book to. When the competition has ended I will put some of the entries up on this blog (both the winners and other good entries) and will link to the websites/blogs/twitter/facebook of the writers (so you can get a little promotion yourself.). Right then, all there is to say now is good luck and I look forward to seeing the entries.

World Cup Dreams: Extra Time Edition, FREE on kindle this weekend

It has been a strange season, particularly as a Leeds United fan! But it all ends this weekend with the FA Cup final. As a treat to celebrate a barren summer of little football (there is the Women’s World Cup though!) I thought people might want to read about what they are missing. I have not done a promotion for a long time but here goes. For this weekend only (30th and 31st May 2015) the Extra Time Edition of World Cup Dreams will be free on Kindle. I will tweet plenty of updates so don’t worry if you forget from now to the weekend. I hope you enjoy it and any reviews, positive or negative, would be much appreciated. Let’s hope you all grab it on Saturday or Sunday and have a look over the long hot (ok, probably not hot as we are in England, well I am!) summer. Enjoy.
